Introduction to Yoga and Meditation

LIVING YOGA WORKSHOP
ONE-DAY WORKSHOP
17 June 2012

The workshop is open to everybody who wishes to participate. Key practices for living a fuller, more conscious and stress-free life:

  • asanas (physical exercises)
  • pranayamas (breathing techniques to stimulate and control the body’s vital, life energy)
  • yoga nidra (the practice of ‘psychic’ sleep)
  • antar mouna (a method to achieve inner silence)
  • nada yoga and mantras (sound vibration to calm the mind)
  • meditations to increase awareness and tranquility and to gain discipline over the mind

We will look at the way the chakras effect our way of thinking, our actions and our way of seeing ourselves and the world around us. We will also be looking at the power of sound in creating emotional balance and peace of mind.

The workshop will be held at the Tai Chi Studio in Amsterdam. It will begin at 10:00 and end at 16:30.

Holistic Yoga & Shiatsu Therapy

Yoga is not only for correcting the body, but above all for understanding, correcting and being in control of the mind.

In the same way that we become more aware physically, we also more aware mentally and spiritually. Yoga gives us the tools to first develop greater awareness and then shows us how to let go of aspects of our mental personality that cause tensions, conflicts and which hold us back or pull us down in our life.

Yoga Nidra is a tool that neutralizes disturbing impressions that bubble up from the unconscious dimension of our mind, whilst we are in a deep state of relaxation. Examples of how these impressions from the unconscious can disturb us are: sleep problems; fears, allergies, neuroses, migraine, exema and negative patterns of thinking.

Another yogic tool for embracing your positive, optimistic, strong and constructive potential is the SWAN meditation. The word SWAN contains the first letters of the following aspects of your personality – your Strengths; Weaknesses; Ambitions and your Needs. SWAN gives you deep insight and allows you to discover your hidden potentials. This will update the image we have of ourselves, replacing the imaginary with the reality.

Both of these tools will be experienced and explored during the workshop.
