Holistic Yoga is a form of yoga that develops, unites, balances and transforms all aspects of the human personality, on all levels – physical, mental, emotional and spiritual – using Hatha, Raja and Mantra yogas to reflect the different aspects of your personality. The regular use of these yogas will develop a state of body and mind in which meditation could take place.

The postures are performed coordinating your action with your breathing and your focused awareness. When you move consciously, completely focusing on both the physical action and the activity of the mind, as well as being aware of the flow of vital energy through the body that is caused by the action, the body’s metabolic functions are balanced and the different types of vital energy in the body are united.

By increasing your ability to focus, you also strengthen your willpower and are able to exert more mastery over your mind, helping you to realize your aims in life. You begin to take control of your life.

The postures enable you to feel how you are at that particular moment in time, and how the mind and the body are communicating.

Weakness will be transformed into strength, tensions will relax and the body and mind will start to interact more harmoniously. You will learn how you can free your body and mind from tensions, developing greater mental freedom and space.

The physical positions are explained step by step and if necessary they can be done in stages – making them possible for all ages and levels of ability. (If you have a specific complaint which limits your movements it is advisable to have a Shiatsu Therapy treatment before beginning the classes).

Breathing: an action of giving and taking.

By learning to breathe more fully and consciously, you will feel how the breath helps you to minimize physical and mental tensions, calming and freeing the breath which in turn releases energy, and brings back feeling in your body.

When lung capacity increases, your immunity to dis-ease increases. HOLISTIC YOGA helps to heal dis-eases you may already have (for example the common cold) and you will learn what you can do to reduce the likelihood of a dis-ease returning; as the immune system becomes stronger, you will suffer less dis-ease.

During the classes emphasis is placed on the positive aspects of a situation, what you can do rather than what is not (yet) possible. Most of the time our attention is directed towards the external world.

During the classes your attention is directed internally. You will begin to live more in the present rather than in the past or the future.
