AMSTERDAM, 1st May 2011 Dear friends,
The second Introduction to Yoga & meditation workshop, on 17 April, was a great success. It is so pleasing to have the time to be able to go more deeply into the benefits and aspects of yoga that help to manage the mind, the body and to nourish the spiritual side of our being. We looked at the 5 different kinds of energy (prana) in the body and their influence on our physiology, whilst also trying to develop the feeling of these energies after performing yoga postures. We dealt with the 5 layers (scheden) of consciousness that make up our subtle body and the way that they influence us mentally and physically as well as our behaviour. Then we felt the different qualities of the chakric system in the subtle body, using meditation, mantra’s and yoga nidra (psychic sleep). The theme throughout was to develop a connection with the part of our being which can witness things neutrally and remain undisturbed by what is coming to us through the mind and the senses. In this busy, information saturated, and demanding society in which we live these tools are essential if we are to avoid sensory overload and becoming mentally stressed. Mind management and energy management are as important as time management. The following workshop will be on 19 June, where we will continue to look at the way the chakras effect our way of thinking, our actions, as well as our way of seeing ourselves and the world around us. We will also be looking at the power of sound in creating emotional balance and peace of mind. For this purpose I have invited Ivan Pavlicek (Mahesh), to return to Amsterdam. Ivan is a yoga teacher from London, who participated in the first workshop, back in the ice age in February! Looking ahead I am also happy to announce that Peter Bligh will be returning to Europe, and to Amsterdam to give two Meditation workshops, in de Roos on 8 & 9 of October, then in the T’ai Chi Studio on the 15 & 16 October. The weekly classes continue until 2 July, beginning again from Monday 5 September. Please take note of the vacations in May and in June.
